On November 21, 2025, Governor Murphy issued a Writ of Election to fill the vacancy in the House of Representatives in the Eleventh Congressional District due to the resignation of the Honorable Mikie Sherrill.

The deadline for independent candidates to file their petitions for the special general election is no later than 4:00 p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2026. Here are 3 ways you can vote in the upcoming Special Primary Election:

 

1. AT YOUR POLLING PLACE ON ELECTION DAY

Vote in person at your polling place, from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.

Accommodations will be made for voters with disabilities.

Special Primary Election Day – Thursday, February 5, 2026
Special General Election Day – Thursday, April 16, 2026

2. IN-PERSON EARLY VOTING

This new option enables all registered voters to cast their ballot in person, using a voting machine, during in-person early voting period prior to Election Day. You can now choose to vote, in person, when it’s most convenient for your schedule.

No matter where you live in the county, you can vote your specific ballot at any of your county’s designated in-person early voting locations. Find your county’s locations on our Early Voting page.

In-Person Early Voting for both the Special Primary Election and the Special General Election. Hours for Early voting locations will be Friday - Saturday, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. through 6 p.m.. No appointment is necessary. Accommodations will be made for voters with disabilities.

Special Primary Election – Thursday, January 29, 2026 – Tuesday, February 3, 2026
Special General Election – Monday, April 6, 2026 – Tuesday, April 14, 2026

3. VOTE BY MAIL

Registered voters can apply for a vote-by-mail ballot by following the instructions found on our Vote-By-Mail page or contacting their County Clerk.

Then, VOTE and RETURN your ballot one of the following ways...

Secure Ballot Drop Box: Place your vote-by-mail ballot in one of your county’s secure ballot drop boxes by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. Drop box locations can be found on our Secure Ballot Drop Box Locations page.
Board of Elections Office: Deliver your vote-by-mail ballot in person to your county’s Board of Elections Office by 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. County Election Officials’ contact information can be found on our County Election Officials page.
Mail: Your vote-by-mail ballot MUST be postmarked on or before 8:00 p.m. on Election Day and be received by your county’s Board of Elections on or before the sixth day after the close of the polls.
