2025 New Jersey Income Tax Refunds

We began issuing 2025 Income Tax refunds.

Paper checks are issued from the "Property Tax Relief Fund" and direct deposits are made as "State of N.J. NJSTTAXRFD."

File Your NJ Return Electronically

New Jersey’s official online tax portals allow residents and nonresidents to file their electronically for free.

Free Tax Preparation

The VITA program offers free, IRS-certified tax preparation services for eligible New Jersey residents, helping individuals and families file accurate federal and state tax returns at no cost.

2024 Stay NJ Payments

We began issuing First-Quarter payments for the 2024 Stay NJ Program in February 2026. Eligible recipients will receive their paper checks in the mail.

2025 NJ-1040 Booklet Page Order

Tax Year 2025 NJ-1040 booklets were mailed with pages 1–2 placed separately from pages 3–4, but all pages are included, and the return can be filed normally by combining them. If you prefer, you may request a corrected booklet, print the return, or file online for free starting January 26, 2026.

Major Upgrades to the NJ Tax-Filing System

We are modernizing our tax-filing system through a multi-phased approach. Phase 1 tax filing and payment systems are now available through the NJ Tax Portal.
