Department of the Treasury Internship Program

The New Jersey Department of the Treasury currently is accepting applications for a department-wide Internship Program, which aims to provide highly motivated undergraduate, graduate and law students with compensated hands-on training and work experience. Treasury's participating divisions will offer special projects and assignments that are designed to prepare students for their future career.

Students who are accepted into the program will be matched with the appropriate business unit and assigned to experienced supervisors that will assist, mentor, and provide relevant learning experiences throughout the program.

Interested applicants must be at least 17 years old and actively pursuing an undergraduate, graduate, or law degree at a higher education academic institution on a full time basis. A full-time student is generally defined as one who carries at least 12 semester credit hours as an undergraduate or nine semester credit hours as a graduate student.

Compensation, Hours, and Locations

Compensation is in accordance with the student's current academic year:

  • Freshman: $17.50 per hour
  • Sophomore: $18.50 per hour
  • Junior: $19.50 per hour
  • Senior: $20.50 per hour
  • Master's or Law Students: $21.50 per hour

Hours range between 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday (with a maximum of 25 hours per week)

Positions will be centered in downtown Trenton, NJ with additional opportunities possibly available in the Newark area and Atlantic City.

How to Apply

Interested applicants have two methods to apply:

  • Submit an application identifying your field of study or area(s) of interest. Applications will be maintained in a resume bank according to your interest selections and made available to various hiring managers across the department for consideration throughout the year.

    Please note all applications received will be shared with management and limited to only the area(s) of interest that you indicate on the application. Hiring managers will be able to access the resume bank as opportunities arise within their particular division. It should be noted that opportunities will become available throughout the year, and an opportunity may not be open for all of the areas of interest at any given time during the year.

  • Monitor our website to view current advertised opportunities, and if interested, submit an application specifically for that opportunity.

    Please note all applications are maintained in the resume bank by default. However, expressing interest in a specific opportunity will increase your opportunity to be invited in for an interview for the specific opportunity being recruited for.

Important Notes

Residency: In accordance with the New Jersey First Act, P.L. 2011, c.70, new public employees are required to establish and maintain principle residence in New Jersey within one (1) year of employment. For more information, please visit the Department of Labor.

Work Authorization: Applicants must possess acceptable work authorization in the United States in accordance with United States Citizenship and Immigration Services and Department of Homeland Security regulations. Candidates on student visas, F1 visas, or H1B visas are not eligible for employment at this time.
