Motorist Help

I-78 is a strategic travel corridor for motorists traveling through New Jersey and for those coming from destinations in Pennsylvania and New York. More than 145,000 trips are made each day on this interstate.

To ensure the safety of motorists and to help mitigate inconveniences from this most necessary construction project, the New Jersey Department of Transportation has increased motorist assistance with these services:
  • dedication of an Emergency Service Patrol (pdf 2.2m) unit to the construction area in addition to routine patrols on this section of I-78
  • a tow truck will be stationed on site to immediately and safely remove disabled vehicles from traffic
  • five emergency pullover lanes
  • additional hours of operation for the Traffic Operation Center
  • real-time delays reported via variable message signs, highway advisory radio stations, traffic media services and njcommuter.com real-time traffic site
  • expedited access for emergency responders
  • coordination with and use of NJ Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, PennDOT and Pennsylvania Turnpike information networks
