Public outreach for the Pulaski Skyway Rehabilitation project will be targeted toward all individuals who might be affected by the work, including commuters, local residents, business owners and all ‘Interested Persons' as defined by federal law.

Principal elements of the Public Involvement Plan include:

  • Effective communication and coordination with the municipal governments, general public and public agencies
  • Innovative strategies to inform and obtain feedback from the public
Outreach strategies include:

Commuter Survey
Approximately 5,000 motorists participated in the survey that the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) conducted in early 2013, providing NJDOT with information on their daily commutes and valuable input on the alternate routes and modes they would consider using once the northbound Pulaski Skyway lanes are closed for rehabilitation in March 2014.

The feedback helped guide the Department's ongoing efforts to create additional capacity and travel options, and to minimize the inconvenience that the closure will create for motorists, businesses and area residents.

A summary (pdf 411k) of the survey findings includes some of the strategies that NJDOT and partner transportation agencies are advancing to mitigate the effects of the long-term northbound lanes closure.
