Voting

If you are 18 or older, you meet the requirements to exercise your right to vote. Voting is a fundamental act of civic participation through which you can contribute to democracy. While it’s one of many forms of civic engagement, it is also a powerful way for you to make your voice heard and to have an impact on issues that affect you and your communities. You can vote in national, state, and local elections. However, in order to participate in voting you must register first.

To register in New Jersey, you must be:

  • A United States citizen
  • At least 17 years old, though you may not vote until you have reached the age of 18
  • A resident of the county for 30 days before the election
  • A person not serving a sentence of incarceration as the result of a conviction of any indictable offense under the laws of this or another state or of the United States.

You can use the following link to register to vote online in NJ: Voter Registration | NJ DOS - Division of Elections
